It's wild how unashamedly wrong Mert and his gang have been about the whole L2 scaling story. For Mert to have been "in before they start saying L3s are bullish for L1s" he'd have had to have tweeted that quoted screenshot in ~2021 because eth people have been talking about how a hierarchical interwoven tree of L2s/L3s rooted on the L1 was bullish for ethereum and ETH for nearly 5 years. L3s are as bullish for the L1 as L2s are. Which is to say, they mostly and usually are very bullish, and also it depends on the details. The more an L2/L3 interconnects with the L1 and other L2s/L3s (as all major L2s do and continue to ramp up), and the more an L2/L3 distributes and uses ETH and/or L1 gas/blobs (as most L2s do heavily), and the more an L2/L3 inspires net new L2s/L3s being built on eth instead of those new chains becoming or using alt L1s (as Arb and Base helped inspire the Robinhood L2), then the more bullish that L2/L3 is for the L1 and ETH. In other words, every L2/L3 is somewhere between fairly bullish and giga bullish for ETH. It pretty much never makes sense for a new entrant to choose an alt L1 for their app or chain or assets - unless a big growth bribe is offered. Some of the world's largest organizations are too rich to be bought by chain incentives, and that's part of why these orgs are choosing eth - because eth is where you build when you have a vision for the future, and not just trying to earn a quick launch incentive. Alt L1s are the worst of all worlds nowadays - bad tech scalability, bad capital depth, bad interop with rest of onchain economy, and bad base layer decentralization. The only narrow exception to this is highly customized alt L1 codebases, like hl, that someday will instead be better off as L2s once our many L2 SDKs are even more customizable. This really isn't rocket science. Anyone with half a brain and two eyes on the space can see there is a global network of public and semi-private chains gathering strength, rooted on eth L1. That's why Sony, Coinbase, Robinhood, Deutsche Bank, and many others to come will continue choosing eth L2s. The benefits will flow to everyone in ethereum - app tokens, L2 tokens, and ETH.
