VanEck, a well-known investment firm, and Nasdaq have officially filed a request with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to launch a new exchange-traded fund (ETF) that would focus on Avalanche ( $AVAX ). This filing was made under the SEC’s 19b-4 form, which is required for rule changes like listing a new ETF on an exchange. 6If approved, the new product, named the VanEck Avalanche Trust ETF, would enable retail investors to expose themselves to AVAX without purchasing or holding the cryptocurrency directly. The ETF would list on Nasdaq according to rules in place for commodity-based trust shares. VanEck has previously filed for several crypto-related ETFs, such as those for Ethereum and Bitcoin. This action indicates increased interest among large players in the financial space to extend crypto investment products beyond BTC and ETH. In the past, crypto prices, particularly those related to ETF filings, usually experienced a surge when this kind of announcement is made. AVAX might rally if investors are optimistic that the ETF will draw new demand from institutional and retail investors. The price of Avalanche (AVAX) is approximately $17.83 as of April 10, 2025, indicating a slight increase of roughly 3% from the previous closing. The trading range for AVAX has been between $17.28 and $18.74.

As global markets are rocked by Trump’s new “Liberation Day” tariffs and a sudden liquidity crisis, the cryptocurrency market is experiencing one of its worst declines of 2020. While Bitcoin has managed to hold up relatively better, Ethereum is seeing sharper losses. This raises questions about why ETH is losing more than BTC in this downturn. Read on! Market Chaos: Risk Assets Are Plummeting Almost every major market, including the US, has seen strong downward pressure over the past seven days. The US market is down 0.68%, Europe is down 4.65%, China is down 3.28%, India is down 3.53%, and Australia is down 1.21%. Similarly, all major asset classes, especially those closely tied to the US market, have seen severe selling pressure. Since April 1, the price of WTI crude oil has fallen by almost 13.79. Between April 3 and April 7, even the price of gold (widely considered a safe haven asset) has fallen by more than 4.74%. The situation in the cryptocurrency market is no different. Over the past seven days, the top two cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin and Ethereum, have fallen by at least 1.1% and 11%, respectively. It seems that the economic chaos has hurt Ethereum more than Bitcoin. Let's analyze further! Capital flows are drying up: Ethereum is feeling the pressure According to a research report, the $ETH market saw capital inflows of +15.5 billion/month at its peak, but is now experiencing outflows of -$6 billion/month. In contrast, inflows into the BTC market have slowed, but are still positive at +6 billion/month.  The BTC vs ETH realized market cap chart shows that Ethereum's realized market cap has only grown by +32% since the end of 2022, from $183 billion to $244 billion. However, Bitcoin's realized market cap has grown by at least +117% over this period, from $402 billion to $870 billion. This means that $BTC has attracted much more investor demand than Ethereum this cycle. ETH Holders Are in the Red: MVRV Ratio Drops Below 1.0 According to the BTC vs ETH MVRV chart, ETH's MVRV ratio has dropped below 1.0, while BTC's MVRV ratio has remained above 1.0. MVRV is the ratio between a crypto asset's market value and its realized value. This chart shows that average ETH holders are now in the red, but BTC holders are still making paper profits. Investors in the red are likely to sell. This explains the growing selling pressure in the Ethereum market. Bitcoin Dominance: Over 800 Days of Lead The report shows that Bitcoin holders have had higher average returns than ETH holders for 812 consecutive days. This long-term underperformance reinforces the weaker sentiment around ETH. ETH/BTC Pair Signals Worrying Divergence The ETH/BTC pair has fallen at least 75% since September 2022. Earlier this month, the Ethereum/BTC pair was at 0.02207. Since then, the market has fallen over 11.46%. This also shows that Etherem is significantly underperforming compared to Bitcoin. What's Next: Can ETH Regain Its Momentum? The report says that ETH investors have booked $564 million in realized losses compared to $240 million for BTC during the last sell-off. Notably, ETH has outperformed BTC at times in past bull markets, but that has not been the case in this cycle =m. In conclusion, with investor sentiment weakening and capital flows drying up, Ethereum's poor performance could continue unless strong bullish momentum returns.
