Small businesses in the United States jointly sue Trump's tariff policy, claiming it exceeds the president's statutory authority
According to Ibtimes, five small American businesses have filed a lawsuit in the U.S. International Trade Court challenging President Trump's recent implementation of broad import tariff policies. The lawsuit, represented by the non-partisan organization Center for Justice and Liberty, accuses Trump of overstepping his authority, illegally seizing Congress' power to tax, and questions the rationality of viewing trade deficits as a national emergency. The plaintiff companies come from different states and industries including New York wine importers and Vermont bicycle clothing brands among others; all claim that tariffs have caused severe financial pressure. The lawsuit asks the court to stop the execution of tariffs and confirm that the president has no right to unilaterally implement such measures. The White House argues that these tariffs are intended to protect American businesses and workers, addressing long-term trade deficit issues.
