Chromia Launches Mimir Upgrade, Enabling On-Chain Vector Databases
- Chromia addresses operating expenses while also improving transparency, security, and control for artificial intelligence developers.
- Vector databases play a vital role in artificial intelligence systems, since they enable essential operations such as the search for similarity, the retrieval of contextual text, and long-term memory.
The successful deployment of Chromia’s Mimir Mainnet Upgrade, which included substantial breakthroughs in decentralized infrastructure, has been confirmed by the company. Vector data, an essential component for artificial intelligence applications, may now be stored on the blockchain thanks to this upgrade.
Vector databases play a vital role in artificial intelligence systems, since they enable essential operations such as the search for similarity, the retrieval of contextual text, and long-term memory. Most artificial intelligence efforts, on the other hand, depend on centralized services to store and administer these databases. A decentralized alternative is made available by the Mimir Upgrade, which makes it possible for vector data to be stored directly on Chromia’s Layer-1 blockchain.
Chromia addresses operating expenses while also improving transparency, security, and control for artificial intelligence developers. This is accomplished via the decentralization of vector storage. Through the use of a fixed model that prevents surge pricing during times of high demand, the Chromia team has made internal estimations that imply their approach has the potential to lower prices by as much as 98% in comparison to products offered by rivals.
Johnson Lai, Head of Data and AI at Chromia stated:
“Our solution offers significant benefits in security, uptime, and transparency, while also being one of the most cost-effective options available. Not just in Web3, but anywhere.”
Not only does the Mimir Upgrade has vector database capability, but it also includes the first version of the AI Inference Extension. The use of this extension makes it possible for open-source models such as DeepSeek to operate on Chromia provider nodes. This provides an option to hosting these models on cloud servers such as Amazon Web Services (AWS).
Chromia intends to improve the accessibility of blockchain technology for artificial intelligence developers by continuing to innovate and offer decentralized solutions. Additionally, the company intends to enhance the utility of the platform for native Chromia decentralized applications (dapps), projects that build on other blockchains, and Web2 clients who are looking to decentralize their infrastructure.
Chromia is a Layer-1 relational blockchain platform that employs a modular architecture to empower users and developers with specialized decentralized application (dapp) chains, fee structures that may be customized, and improved digital assets. Chromia delivers natively queryable data that is indexed in real time. This presents a challenge to the existing quo in order to bring innovations that will improve the end-user experience and support new Web3 business models. Chromia does this by fundamentally altering how information is structured on the blockchain.
