Ethereum Foundation: Mekong Testnet will soon be discontinued

Bitget2025/03/07 01:14

PANews reported on March 7th that the Ethereum Foundation stated in its official blog that the Mekong development network was originally designed to provide wallet developers with a place to experiment with user experience (UX) changes, and also to give stakers confidence in future Pectra changes. The Pectra network upgrade has been activated on Ethereum's Sepolia and Holesky testnets. These networks are now available for testing the functionality of the Pectra upgrade. In light of this, the Mekong testnet will cease operation on March 7, 2025.

Developers of applications and tools are encouraged to use Sepolia for testing applications, smart contracts, and other EVM features. Its licensed validator set provides a stable testing environment. Additionally, many local development environments allow for tests against copies of Ethereum's mainnet state.

For stakers and infrastructure providers who focus on protocol-level testing, it is recommended to wait for final confirmation from Holesky testnet or follow announcements on Ethereum R&D Discord for information about alternative testing locations. For validator setup tests, stakers should also consider using Ephemery testnet which resets weekly supporting lightweight end-to-end lifecycle tests for validators.
