Cardano launches Plomin era with $1.5B governance budget
Cardano (CRYPTO:ADA) has officially activated its long-awaited Plomin hard fork, marking a significant transition to decentralised governance for the blockchain network.
During a livestream titled “Welcome to the Plomin Era,” founder Charles Hoskinson expressed his excitement about this milestone, calling it “the most powerful blockchain government in the world.”
Reflecting on the journey since Cardano's inception in 2015, Hoskinson noted the community's growth and achievements over the past decade.
“It has been such a long journey... Now 10 years later, we are now the largest decentralised cryptocurrency government in the world,” he stated.
The Plomin hard fork introduces a governance system that empowers ADA holders to participate actively in decision-making processes.
The first block of this new era was produced by a community member known as “Barry Barry,” showcasing the network's collaborative spirit.
Hoskinson emphasised that the governance framework consists of three main pillars: the Constitution, budget, and roadmap.
These elements will be subject to community proposals and validated on-chain by Delegated Representatives (DReps) and ADA holders.
The budget, which includes approximately $1.5 billion worth of ADA, will allow competing proposals to be debated and refined through this governance structure.
The recently ratified Cardano Constitution requires further on-chain approval from the community before it can take effect.
Hoskinson highlighted that Cardano has surpassed Bitcoin in terms of decentralisation, according to the Edinburgh Decentralisation Index.
“Congratulations on being the first cryptocurrency since Bitcoin to truly escape its founder,” he remarked, indicating a shift towards community-led governance.
Looking ahead, Hoskinson outlined future initiatives focused on innovation, including new protocols and voting mechanisms that will enhance Cardano’s decentralised model.
He also reiterated a commitment to financial inclusion through RealFi initiatives and plans for a privacy-focused partner chain named Midnight.
At the time of reporting, the Cardano (ADA) price was $0.9506.
