Renowned Hacker George Hotz Says All Cryptocurrencies Are Insecure

Renowned hacker George Hotz jokingly said that none of the cryptocurrencies are actually secure.

His comments come after leading AI company OpenAI released a new model, o3, that has purportedly found a polynomial time factoring algorithm.

The algorithm will allow large numbers to be factored, thereby compromising the security of many cryptographic systems. However, it is highly unlikely that cryptocurrency security will be breached without large-scale quantum computing.

Hotz cited an Axios article that said computer scientists are concerned about being replaced by artificial intelligence because of the o3 model, which has demonstrated impressive programming abilities that are already beyond the capabilities of the vast majority of developers.

Hotz, who founded self-driving car startup Comma.ai, became famous at a young age for unlocking iPhones and hacking PlayStation 3s. However, cryptocurrency advocates dismissed Hotz's comments as a bad joke.

CEO of Blockstream Adam Beck finds the claim of a crypto-compromising algorithm "highly questionable." Other experts also found no threat statements in the Axios article.
