Sigma Capital launches $100M fund to invest in 100 Web3 projects
Dubai-based venture capital firm Sigma Capital has announced the launch of a $100 million investment fund aimed at supporting early-stage Web3 projects.
The fund plans to invest in 100 startups, 25 liquid tokens, and 10 fund-of-fund allocations, focusing on sectors such as decentralised finance, blockchain infrastructure, metaverse, gaming, and real-world asset (RWA) tokenisation.
Vineet Budki, who previously served as the CEO and managing partner of Cypher Capital, will lead the fund.
Under his guidance, Cypher Capital invested in notable blockchain projects like Mysten Labs and Sei Network.
The establishment of this fund highlights the United Arab Emirates' growing significance as a blockchain hub.
Polygon (CRYPTO:MATIC) founder Sandeep Nailwal remarked that Sigma Capital's initiative underscores the UAE's emerging role in fostering blockchain innovation.
The favorable regulatory environment and influx of talent have positioned the UAE as a launchpad for blockchain projects.
This sentiment was echoed by Blockdaemon executive Andrew Vranjes, who noted the region's potential for attracting new ventures.
In 2024, venture capital funding for crypto and blockchain initiatives surged to $13.6 billion, representing nearly 5% of total VC allocations for the year.
Analysts from Galaxy Research predict that crypto VC activity could rise by 50% year-over-year by Q4 2025 due to declining interest rates and increased regulatory clarity in the United States.
HashKey Capital CEO Deng Chao also identified RWA tokenisation as a key trend for 2025, anticipating significant growth in funding rounds related to this sector.
Estimates suggest that RWA tokenisation could expand by 50 times over the next five years, potentially reaching a market value of $30 trillion.
