US Republicans launch Plan C in an effort to avoid government shutdown
Republican members of the US House of Representatives are looking for ways to avoid a government shutdown, as their second funding proposal was rejected on Thursday night. There are only a few hours left until the deadline on Friday. House Speaker Johnson said earlier on Friday that Republicans had reached a Plan C to avoid a government shutdown and planned to vote on it soon. Senate Republicans called the two proposals they witnessed in the House to provide funding for the government until Christmas a "chaotic farce" and a "disaster." Incoming Senate Majority Leader John Thune (Republican) said as he left the Capitol, "I think everything is back to square one."
