Bitcoin and Ethereum combo ETF expected to launch in 2025
A Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) and Ethereum (CRYPTO:ETH) exchange-traded fund (ETF) is set to lead the launch of several new crypto ETFs in 2025, according to Bloomberg analysts.
Senior ETF analysts Eric Balchunas and James Seyffart shared their forecast on December 17, revealing that a Bitcoin-Ether combo fund is expected to be the first in a series of new cryptocurrency funds.
Balchunas predicts that the combo fund will be followed by ETFs tracking other cryptocurrencies, including Litecoin and Hedera.
However, Seyffart pointed out that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) rejected multiple Solana ETFs on December 7.
He stated that both Solana and XRP ETFs would not be taken into consideration seriously until a new SEC chair is appointed under President Donald Trump’s administration.
The analysts noted that Litecoin and Hedera are more likely to receive approval, with Litecoin potentially being viewed more favorably due to its status as a Bitcoin fork, which could be considered a commodity.
Hedera, which has not been labeled a security by the SEC, also faces fewer regulatory obstacles, according to the analysts.
Despite the higher probability of approval for Litecoin and Hedera ETFs, Balchunas and Seyffart expressed uncertainty about investor demand for these products.
Both analysts highlighted the potential influence of Trump’s SEC chair nomination.
Trump has indicated his intention to nominate pro-crypto businessman Paul Atkins as the next SEC Chair.
Legal experts suggest that this move could lead to a shift toward more favorable policies for cryptocurrencies.
Current SEC Chair Gary Gensler and Commissioner Jamie Lizarrage are expected to step down after Trump’s inauguration, potentially opening the door for more crypto-friendly appointments.
On December 17, SEC Commissioner Caroline Crenshaw had her renomination vote canceled, leaving room for potential pro-crypto commissioners.
At the time of reporting, the price of Bitcoin (BTC) was $103,695, and the price of Ethereum (ETH) was $3,839.71.
