OpenAI Board of Directors: Agree in principle to Sam Altman’s return
On November 19th, multiple sources revealed that the OpenAI board of directors is discussing the possibility of Sam Altman returning to the company as CEO. A source close to Altman stated that the board has agreed in principle to his resignation and allowing both Altman and OpenAI co-founder Greg Brockman to return.
The current OpenAI board of directors is composed of Chief Scientist Ilya Sutskever, Quora CEO Adam D'Angelo, former GeoSim Systems CEO Tasha McCauley, and Georgetown Center for Security and Emerging Technology Strategic Director Helen Toner. None of them hold any shares in OpenAI.
According to multiple sources, Ilya Sutskever is also a co-founder of OpenAI and holds a leadership role. He played an important role in the process of removing Altman. His role in this "coup" indicates a power struggle between the company's research and product departments.
